Fredericksburg Academy isn't the right school for every student, and not every student is the right fit for FA, but those who are may require additional assistance beyond their classroom teachers from time to time.
Counseling
Fredericksburg Academy has a full-time School Counselor to support students' mental health and wellness. The School Counselor is a fully integrated member of the faculty and staff who:
- Initiates and coordinates school-wide services and activities
- Provides short-term counseling services to students as needed
- Provides outside referral to families in need of long-term support
- Assists teachers in developing classroom group counseling/discussion groups to assist in social skill and self-esteem development
- Provides crisis intervention assistance to students in need
- Provide behavioral suggestions to teachers and parents that are developmentally appropriate
- Advocates for all students and fosters an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community
Resource
Fredericksburg Academy works with students who may need extra support in any academic area. Our Resource Team partners with faculty in all divisions to provide students with the opportunity to discover who they are in a nurturing, safe environment while becoming independent learners within our challenging college-prep curriculum.
The Resource Team:
- Assists in the Admission Process by reviewing IEPs to determine whether a candidate's accommodations can be supported by FA's program
- Plans and implements lessons that support students one-on-one and in small groups
- Provides short and long term one-on-one and small group support to students
- Pushes in to classrooms when appropriate to support students
- Observes classes, as requested teachers, to provide feedback and suggestions to support individual needs of students
- Suggests and leads enrichment opportunities to provide additional challenge and opportunity for students to engage in more sophisticated learning opportunities
